SEO Check Up Scan Results

When editing a page's SEO, you can use the results found under the section SEO check up scan in your benefit, to help you make sure your page is well optimized for SEO.

See below a list of some of the results you will find, including what to do when seeing certain results:


Title Tag Found

The title tag is key piece of data about your website. This is the title of the current page and what is shown in search engine result pages. Often, websites that do not have title tags are not included in Google search results.


Title Tag used only once

Summary: The title tag of a website is as the name suggest, the title of the page. A web page should only have one title tag. If more than one title tag is present on a page, search engines like Google may be confused as to which title to use and may ignore the page altogether. This is a critical SEO problem and should be fixed right away.

Solution: Make sure SEO Manager is installed correctly in your theme.


Title is greater than 10 characters

Summary: A title tag for a website should be longer than 10 characters. A page title should be like the headline of a news article - something catchy, yet informative, along with containing the keyword/phrase you wish to rank for.

Solution: Using SEO Manager or Shopify SEO fields, increase the length of this title to more than 10 characters.


Title is less than 70 characters

Summary: A title tag for a website should not be longer than 70 characters. A page title should be like the headline of a news article - something catchy, brief yet informative, along with containing the keyword/phrase you wish to rank for.

Solution: Using SEO Manager or Shopify SEO fields, reduce the length of this title to less than 70 characters.


Meta Description Found

Summary: The meta description is a summary that is displayed on search result pages. The meta description should describe the contents of the page and reinforce the pages title tag, as well as include the keywords/phrases you wish to rank for.

Solution: If the meta description can not be found, make sure SEO Manager is installed correctly in your theme.


Meta Description used only once

Summary: The meta description tag of a website is as the name suggest, the description of the page. A web page should only have one meta description tag. If more than one meta description tag is present on a page, search engines like Google may be confused as to which description to use and may ignore the page altogether. This is a critical SEO problem and should be fixed right away.

Solution: Make sure SEO Manager is installed correctly in your theme.


Description is greater than 50 characters

Summary: A meta description tag for a website should be longer than 50 characters and containing the keyword/phrase you wish to rank for. The description is shown in search engine result pages.

Solution: Using SEO Manager or Shopify SEO fields, increase the length of this descriptions to more than 50 characters.


Description is less than 160 characters

Summary: A meta description tag for a website should not be longer than 160 characters. It should be a summary of the contents of the page and contain the keyword/phrase you wish to rank for. The description is shown in search engine result pages.

Solution: Using SEO Manager or Shopify SEO fields, reduce the length of this title to less than 160 characters.


Canonical URL Found

Summary: A canonical URL tells search engines to always use the URL listed in the code instead of the URL for the current page. This means that you can have 100 URLs show the same product, but Google will only see and index the one canonical URL that is defined in your site’s theme.

Solution: Your theme should include the following code:

<link rel="canonical" href="{{ canonical_url }}" />

If your theme does not include this code, Shopify will automatically include it for you!


Canonical URL used only once

Summary: A canonical URL tells search engines to always use the URL listed in the code instead of the URL for the current page. If more that one canonical URL are found on a page, search engines like Google will ignore them both, resulting in possible duplicate content errors and SEO penalties for your site. This is a critical SEO issue and should be resolved.

Solution: Your theme needs to be updated to support only one canonical URL. Please contact our support team at support@seomanager.com for assistance.


Body has more than 150 words

Summary: The body of this page has less than 150 words. Search engines read the words on a page to determine how to rank the page. Research has shown that pages with more than 150 words of body copy tend to rank faster and higher than pages that have less than 150 words of content.

Solution: Using the Shopify admin panel, update the content page to contain more than 150 words.


Google Site Verify Meta Tag found

Summary: The Google site verification meta tag is used to connect your site to Google Search Console - https://www.google.com/webmasters. Google search console is a powerful tool that helps you track your site's performance in Google searches. We suggest that all site owners add this to their sites.

Bing Site Verify Meta Tag found

Summary: The Bing site verification meta tag is used to connect your site to Bing Webmaster tools - http://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster. Bing Webmaster tools help you track your site's performance in Bing searches. We suggest that all site owners add this to their sites.

Pinterest Site Verify Meta Tag found

Summary: Pinterest is a very popular social network used to share products. Shopify has done research showing that, compared to other social networks, Pinterest users are the most likely to buy products they see on the site. We suggest that all Shopify store owners leverage Pinterest and verify their site through them.

Solution: Get your Pinterest verification code by following the instructions on https://help.pinterest.com/en/articles/confirm-your-website.

Google Analytics Installed on site

Summary: Google Analytics is a free service that gives you insights on how people interact with your site an how your site is discovered. The data from this service is highly valuable and actionable. We suggest that all store owners install Google Analytics on their site.

h1 tag used on page

Summary: The "h1 tag" is the main headline or header for the page. Think of the h1 tag as the headline of a newspaper article. This is a lead-in to the content of the page. Google and other search engines assign SEO value to the words and phrases used in the h1 tag.

Solution: If your page does not contain an h1 tag, your theme files need to be updated. We suggest contacting your theme developer for assistance.
