How to use Structured Data (JSON-LD)
When it comes to SEO, everything counts. Because of this, SEO Manager enables you to include structured data in your store, an important ranking factor for Google.
Google works hard to understand the content of a page, and with SEO Manager, you can help Google by providing signals (which are like clues) about the meaning of a page in your Shopify store by including structured data on the page.
Structured data is a standardized format for providing information about a page and classifying the page content. Think of it like this: on a recipe page, it helps Google understand the ingredients, cooking time and temperature, the calories, and all pertinent cooking information. Everything a person conducting a search query could want.
Google uses structured data that it finds on the web to understand the content of the page, as well as to gather information about the web and the world in general. JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is the preferred structure data format by Google. SEO Manager automatically injects JSON-LD structured data into your store's theme.
These settings can be found in the SEO Manager app under the Structured Data menu:

Enabling/Disabling Structured Data
If your theme already contains structured data, or you would prefer to use another JSON-LD app, you can prevent SEO Manager from injecting JSON-LD into your site by disabling the structured data settings in SEO Manager.
Simply click Disable for any specific settings you wish to disable. SEO Manager offers a variety of individual settings for which you can control structured data (make sure to Save your settings once you're done making changes):
By default, JSON-LD data is enabled. We suggest that you keep these settings enabled for optimal SEO results. Here you can include your company's logo, and all relevant social media handles.
Additionally, if you have a brick and mortar location, you are able to tell Google more about yourself - see Local business structured data.
Company Info
Helping Google understand your Shopify store is one of the most important things you can do as a Shopify store owner. By filling out the Company info section of SEO Manger, you are giving Google information in a way that makes sense to it, through the JSON-LD format.
This information helps search engines understand your store because SEO Manager arranges and delivers this information in a way that they best understand. The more information that search engines have about your store, the better they are able to deliver search engine results to your customers. This is an additional way that you can outrank your competition, as Google tends to favor sites that have this information included in their code, so make sure to fill out this information! Here's how:
- 1
-
Upload your Company logo by clicking on the Logo upload button and then following the prompts:
- 2
-
Enter in your social media account URLs:
- 3
-
When you are finished, make sure to click Save.
There you have it- now you have submitted your Company's information to SEO Manager, who in turn submits it in the JSON-LD format to Google.
Local business structured data
Controlling local business structured data is beneficial for businesses that have a brick and mortar location, and is a fantastic way to continue giving your customers easy-to-access information about your business.
When people search for businesses on Google Search or Google Maps, the search results may display a prominent Knowledge Graph card (box of information) with details about a business that matched the search query.
This data can be provided to Google though on-page structured data. SEO Manager uses Google's preferred structured data format, JSON-LD, to deliver information about your store to Google.
Here's how you can control the structured data portion of SEO Manager:
- 1
-
In the Local business structured data section, click Enable:
- 2
-
This will open up fields which you can fill out with your location, hours, and contact information, besides other details about your business:
If you have a physical location we suggest that you enable this feature. This information is not required, but it can be used as another ranking factor in Google. This all helps your business get found on Google, and can help you get more foot traffic into your store.
Search engine business listings
Google My Business and Bing places for business are tools provided by Google and Microsoft for businesses to enhance their search result listings.
If you have a physical storefront or offer custom services, these resources can be used to add that information into your search listings. This is also a way to add your business to Google maps.
These resources also provide insights to how customers are interacting with your business listings.
